These crystals of a new molecule based on isatin, were obtained from vanillin. Isatin is a molecule that is coloured bright orange and this derivative has inherited this property. The crystallisation was a happy accident caused by my intern who instead of evaporating the solvent in which the molecule was present immediately, he left it in the solvent, which caused the solvent to evaporate slowly over a week and produce these beautiful crystals. These crystals were also useful for the project, because one of the best methods to characterise molecules is the analysis of monocrystals with x-ray diffraction, which was possible with these crystals.
