What does the laboratory do

Design, synthesis and characterization of organic nanomaterials for the development of the advancement of fundamental knowledge in materials science and for various fields of application (materials science, nanosciences and nanotechnologies, energy, molecular electronics, nanomedicine)

Expertise

The research group of Prof. Jean-François Morin is actively developing new organic (dendrimers, semiconductors) and carbon-rich (nanotube derivatives, functionalized graphene nanoribbons) nanomaterials. The proposed strategies are oriented towards resolving the main problems generally related to traditional synthesis methods. Our projects are focused on both the synthesis and characterization of materials along the following three axes 1) Development of functionalized carbon-rich nanomaterials (graphene, nanotubes and nanoparticles) by hybrid methods involving synthesis and self-assembly 2) Development of new π materials — conjugates based on polycyclic aromatic compounds 3) Development of new therapeutic dendrimers (nanomedicine).

Service(s) offered in research and development (R&D)

Research services: scientific consultation, literature search, proof of concept, synthesis and basic characterization of new materials and polymers with research professionals. Over the years, the research group of Professor Jean-François Morin has developed unique know-how in Canada in materials science, more particularly in the synthesis of organic nano-objects using the “hybrid” approach. that is to say by combining the advantages of each of the two approaches in the synthesis of nanomaterials called “bottom-up” and “top-down” to create new nanometric structures.
