Laboratory name
Main Group Chemistry and Energy Materials Laboratory
Affiliation Department
Department of Chemistry
What does the laboratory do
We are interested in synthetic challenges, particularly in the area of main group metastable species. Our interests include developing the chemistry of oxidizing functional groups (nitrogen oxides, peroxides, etc.) with heavy main group elements (phosphorus, silicon, etc.). Beyond our fundamental interests, we seek to develop unusual energetic materials (propellants, pyrotechnics and explosives) with high performance and a low environmental footprint.
Expertise
- Energy materials
- Air exclusion methods
- Handling of corrosive gases
- Handling explosives
- Inorganic synthesis
Service(s) offered in research and development (R&D)
- Characterization and isolation of highly reactive or explosive intermediates
- Gas handling in anhydrous and stoichiometric conditions
- Crystallographic structure resolution (single crystal X-ray diffraction)
